Starring Jodie Foster, Time Robbins and John Turturro.
       Directed by Tony Bill, Written by John Patrick Shanley. An unusual film that follows a psychotic, un-hinged rapist (Turturro) who has been released from prison. He attempts to create a relationship with the girl he attacked (Foster). Her protector (Robbins) is preoccupied with joining the civil rights movement. A twisted story of love and hate that can only lead to a dramatic conclusion. (R)
SATURDAY AUGUST 8TH
ED WOOD (screens at 7pm and 9:25pm)
Starring Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette, with Bill Murray. Directed by Tim Burton. Due to his eccentric habits (and friends) and his strange films, director Ed Wood (Depp) is a Hollywood outcast. With the help of the famous Bela Lugosi (Landau) and a devoted cast and crew of misfits, the filmmaker is able to bring his off-kilter dreams of cinematic grandure to life.

The cult classic follows sweethearts Brad (Bostwick) and Janet (Sarandon) as they discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Curry), a transvestite scientist. Their innocence is lost when Brad and Janet meet Frank’s mansion full of wild characters, a rocking biker (Meat Loaf), a creepy butler (O’Brien). Through music, song and dance, Frank unveils his latest creation: a muscular man, Rocky!

A German emigrant living in a trailer in Kansas is the victim of a botched sex-change operation. This off-Broadway rock theater hit tells the story of the the “internationally ignored” rock singer, Hedwig, and her search for stardom and love. (R)

 

SATURDAY AUGUST 15TH
THE COMPUTER WORE TENNIS SHOES (screens at 12 noon)
Starring Kurt Russell, Cesar Romero, and Joe Flynn.  Students from a cash-strapped college are in need of a computer. They convince A.J. Arno (Romero) to donate one to the college. When it needs to be repaired, Dexter Reilly (Russell) fixes it during an electrical storm and receives the shock of his life. Suddenly, the computer’s memory is fused with Dexter’s and now that he’s a genius, hilarity ensues!

Directed by Nicholas Winding Refn. Drug-smuggler, Julian (Gosling), is thriving in Bangkok’s criminal underworld, sees his life get even more complicated when his mother asks him to find and kill those responsible for his brother’s recent death.  (R)

Directed by Giulio Paradisi. An ancient intergalactic warrior arrives on Earth to put a stop to a demonic child’s plot to reproduce Satan’s next generation of evil. (R)
FRIDAY AUGUST 28TH
THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (screens at 7pm and 8:45pm)
Starring Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, and Lillian Gish. 
Directed by Charles Laughton.  Reverend Harry Powell (Mitchum) is a religious fanatic and serial killer who targets women who use their sexuality to attract men. After serving time in prison with a condemned killer, (Peter Graves) Powell learns of hidden loot. Once released from jail, Powell is obsessed with finding the money and tracks down the widow Harper (Winters). This is the only film Charles Laughton directed… which is sad because it is excellent and is an inspiration to many of today’s directors.  (Unrated)
SATURDAY AUGUST 29TH
BITE THE BULLET (screens at 6pm and 8:30pm)
Starring Gene Hackman, Jan-Michael Vincent, Candice Bergen, James Coburn, and Ben Johnson.
Directed by Richard Brooks. We follow a disparate group of individuals who enter a cross-country 700 mile horse race across the wild west. The riders include two ex-Rough Riders (Hackman & Coburn), an aging cowboy who refuses to slow down (Johnson), an inexperienced youth (Vincent) and a woman (Bergen). Over the course of the picture, the contestants begin to shed biases toward gender, race and age, learning to appreciate and respect one another. (PG)
